Опустим их сначала в спирт. И лед, и яйцо утонут. Переложим тела в воду. Яйцо утонет, а лед будет плавать. В растворе соли оба тела будут плавать. Для объяснения результатов опыта воспользуемся числовой прямой. Взгляните: на ней отмечены плотности всех веществ и тел, использованных в опыте. Мы видим, что плотность льда больше плотности спирта, и в нем лед тонет. Однако плотность льда меньше плотности воды и раствора соли. Поэтому в них лед плавает. На прямой мы отложили и "плотность яйца" – около 1050 кг/м 3. Это так называемая средняя плотность яйца, ведь оно состоит сразу из нескольких веществ: белка, желтка и скорлупы. Вы видите, что средняя плотность яйца больше плотности воды, но меньше плотности раствора соли. Поэтому в воде яйцо тонет, а в растворе соли – плавает.
Обобщая результаты опыта, сделаем вывод: если средняя плотность тела больше плотности жидкости, то это тело в ней тонет; если же средняя плотность тела меньше плотности жидкости, то тело в ней всплывает. Средняя плотность тела вычисляется по той же формуле, что и плотность вещества, изученная в предыдущем параграфе. Однако, в отличие от плотности вещества, числовое значение средней плотности тела не показывает массу единицы объема этого тела. Например, средняя плотность яйца 1050 кг/м 3 или, в более удобных единицах, – 1,05 г/см 3. Однако из этого не следует, что масса каждого 1 см 3 внутри яйца будет именно 1,05 г.
