Young John says that he saw Mr. Brown kiss his sister and he asked the man if he would like the boy to keep silent on the subject.
Mr. Brown agrees giving the boy a sixpence and expecting him to keep it in secret.
John asks the man if he really means him to keep it a secret for a  sixpence, adding that he got two shillings for not telling that he saw Mr. Johnes kiss her.
