Как в единой дружной семье, все члены лесного сообщества связаны взаимными интересами и взаимовыручкой. Жизнь животных напрямую зависит от деревьев, кустов и трав, а жизнь трав, кустов и деревьев в лесу Обусловлена обитанием в нем определенных животных.
Растения служат зверям и птицам пищей, а звери, птицы и прочие лесные обитатели защищают, в свою очередь, растительный мир от всякого рода напастей, участвуют в опылении цветов, разносят в разные стороны семена.

Таким образом, без взаимовыручки в лесу не было бы жизни. Дятел, например, питается зимой сосновыми и еловыми семенами, весной пьет березовый сок. И он же - дятел - достает под древесной корой личинок короедов, клюет и самих жуков, которые считаются самыми опасными вредителями сосняков и ельников. Благодаря неустанному труду по освобождению деревьев от паразитов дятел заслужил почетное звание санитара леса.

В урожайные годы птица кедровка всю осень и зиму питается в кедровом лесу кедровыми орешками. Она набивает орехами свой вместительный мешок в зобу и несет их в укромное место, чтобы спрятать во мху и тем самым сделать запас продовольствия на зиму. Пару-тройку орехов птица обронит по дороге, да еще спрятанные запасы кое-где остаются несъеденными. Уцелевшие орехи летом прорастут - и со временем в разных концах кедровника поднимутся молодые деревца. Вот почему кедровку зовут лесным сеятелем.
