Alfred, I think this is a good start to understanding software vs Applications. I too, like Jessica would be interested in the types of application software. I consider Applications to be logical and deployed instances of software. For example, Microsoft Excel is a software product with multiple versions and not an application. If you build macros and formulas and load data that full-fills a business function or capability, then that particular use of Excel with configurable functionality could be considered an application.
