Summary: The Cherokee people were living in darkness. They asked the animals for help and Possum volunteered to go to the other side of the world to get the sun. On his way back, the sun burnt his fur and he dropped it, causing the sun to disappear. The animals then tried to get the sun back with Buzzard eventually succeeding, but the sun was too hot and burnt the feathers on his head. Finally, Grandmother Spider was able to retrieve the sun and put it in a pot, bringing light back to the Cherokee people.
