Відмінності в темпах розвитку країн Європи в кінці 19 - на початку 20 століття були зумовлені різницею в економічному розвитку, наявністю ресурсів та капіталу, політичними та історичними умовами. Країни, що мали більшу кількість ресурсів та капіталу, а також були політично та історично стабільніші, розвивалися швидше.
